Bend the Bow Qigong and Bagua Meditations

17 November 2017 - 19 November 2017

Bend the Bow is a powerful practice for consciously strengthening and regenerating the spine. In China, this form is used to control spinal energy and vertebral movement, it can be especially helpful in relieving back problems. At its most sophisticated level, individuals can learn to move each vertebra in any direction at will--techniques not believed to be possible in Western medicine.

Learning to control the alignments and flow of chi in your spinal vertebrae is the path to a happy and healthy back and neck. Join us for this special and rarely offered course.

Special Announcement: Bruce will be teaching a Bagua Meditations course on Friday evening of the weekend workshop. Worldly life is filled with anxiety, excessive mental and emotional churning. All of which derive from the yin and yang qualities of the mind and body being out of balance. This course will show you the bagua practice methods used to balance your internal reality. Enabling problems such as these to cease damaging the quality of your life.

All of this is based on using circle walking and the movement changes of bagua to flow between the yin and yang aspects of your life with less stress and discomfort. These meditation methods balance the yin and yang qualities of your mind for example: hope/fear, confidence/internally collapsing, anger/compassion and other polarized states of being. Bagua meditation practice groups will be offered outside of class time throughout the weekend (Sat/Sun) if there is sufficient group interest.

Price after Oct 10: $350

Course Details

In effect, Bend the Bow Spinal Qigong is the second part of the Marriage of Heaven and Earth Qigong (Chicago Workshop Nov 10-12). It is also a foundation for the deeper 3 tantien work of Gods Playing in the Clouds Qigong.

Bruce and his Instructors will teach different groups of students different levels of the Bend the Bow practice, according to students' prior knowledge of Bend the Bow. Bend the Bow is initially composed of 7 distinct and ever more progressive and sophisticated levels:

1.  Spine stretch and other simple warms up to loosen the spine and relax the nervous system.

2.  Physical basics including technically precise physical movements and reverse breathing techniques to begin the process of working with spinal energy.

3.  Energy basics:

  • Linking together the physical and energetic movements of the internal organs to the proper opening and closing movement of the spinal vertebrae and all your joints
  • Opening and closing all your spinal vertebrae simultaneously as one integrated unit
  • Regulating the fluids that surround your spinal cord and brain.

4. Pulsing the space between each spinal vertebra and, one by one:

  • Moving each vertebra independently. One by one, in any direction you choose without external physical motion
  • Becoming aware of and correcting general left and right imbalances in the body and in the spinal vertebrae in particular.

5.  How to generally apply and integrate Bend the Bow within the internal martial arts of tai chi, hsing-i and bagua, and qigong.

6.  Working with the 3 energies within the spinal cord and cerebrospinal fluid.

7.  Using the energies within the spinal cord to open the upper tantien (kundalini energy)

For decades many people with bad backs and necks have asked me, “ What qigong should I do?” My answer is always the same “Bend the Bow”.

Because Dragon and Tiger Qigong is a simple and effective qigong practice, it is taught to students at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine. Tracing the meridian lines helps our students to become more sensitive to both their own and their patients' chi and enables them to become better acupuncturists.
